This great circular hiking trail is entirely dedicated to Germany's only shield volcano - the Vogelsberg. Basalt is everywhere, so solidified lava from former eruptions. The route has a few more demanding climbs on the Stornfels, the "Old Castle" and on the Schlossberg in Ulrichstein. It goes over earthy forest and meadow paths; in the vicinity of the villages also on gravel forest roads. You should take sturdy shoes with you and it can be slippery in wet weather. Entry and direction of travel can be planned individually.
