1st stage of the Eselweg long-distance hiking trail in Hesse. The first stage of the long-distance hiking trail begins in Schlüchtern (south-east Hesse). The route begins in the valley of the River Kinzig and is marked throughout. It soon climbs out of the town. Open landscapes keep Schlüchtern in view for a long time until the hike finally enters the dense Spessart forest. Beautiful views over the Spessart heights often come into view. The route passes through the villages of Hohenzell and Bellings. Finally, it passes the Steinau leisure park, which is particularly popular with children. From the Seidenröther Warte (observation tower) there is a magnificent view over the northern Spessart. The route continues along a tarred farm track, which still leads uphill. The small village of Seidenroth is reached. One last stretch through the forest, back down into the valley to the stage destination of Mernes. This is a good place to end the day.
