Pupplinger Au and Ickinger Weir

This picturesque route leads through one of the most important nature reserves south of Munich, where the Isar has retained its original character as a wild river. The trail opens up the extensive Pupplinger Au between Wolfratshausen and Egling and runs along a mixture of flat alluvial forest paths, paved riverside paths and gravel banks. A central highlight is the impressive Ickinger Weir, which marks the transition from the natural riverbed to the Isar Canal and offers spectacular views of the turquoise waters of the Isar. Goosanders, little ringed plovers and various dragonfly species can be observed in the protected floodplain landscape, while the sparse pine forests on the gravelly ground are home to alpine flora. The route is flat throughout and offers a first-class nature experience in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps.
