MTB: Über das Trockental nach Heiligenstadt

Beautiful MTB route in Franconia. It goes into the Franconian Switzerland-Franconian Jura Nature Park, one of the largest nature parks in Germany. Start is in Köttensdorf near the brewery restaurant, where you can also stop off very tasty. In a southeasterly direction, past the beautiful natural forest reserve of Lohntal, you reach Heroldsmühle. But before that you come across the dry valley of the Leinleiter near Hohenpölz. This only carries water sporadically and is accompanied by hunger fountains and tumblers, eg "small tumbler" and "big tumbler". A truly unique area: it's hard to imagine that waterfalls once existed here. What remains are dry watercourses that can be traced back to the cold periods of the Pleistocene. Finally, you come to the beautiful town of Heiligenstadt and the Pavilion viewpoint. From here the return tour is started via Reckendorf, Heroldstein and later Pünzendorf until the starting point is reached. Detours to Greifenstein Castle and the ruins of the Gothic chapel are also worthwhile.
