Beautiful loop in the Upper Palatinate Forest, Bavaria.
On the Marterlweg - or the path of faith - the white and blue markings lead once round from the old cemetery to Zwergau and the Waldecker Schlossberg. There are 15 wayside shrines along the way to inspire you. The route mostly follows field and meadow paths. A highlight of the tour is the castle ruins and the open-air chapel of St Ägidius, both of which are enthroned on the extinct volcanic cone. From here, there is a fantastic view of the surrounding area.
Sturdy footwear is recommended. A short version of the tour can also be done with a stroller. There is a restaurant in Zwergau where you can stop for refreshments.
The start is at the car park at the old Waldeck cemetery. There are several bus routes from the surrounding railway stations to Waldeck.
