Eichstätt Panorama Trail

This scenic loop starts at the modern city train station and quickly leads into the historic center of Eichstätt. Walking across the Spitalbrücke, visitors reach the cathedral square, surrounded by grand baroque architecture. A unique stop along the way is the Guardian Angel Church, famous for its hundreds of painted and sculpted angels. As the path climbs into the Altmühltal Nature Park, lookouts offer views of Willibald Castle and the traditional Jura-style houses with their unique limestone roofs. The trail follows narrow, wooded paths past the massive stone walls of Willibald Castle, where a beautiful botanical garden grows in the shadow of the fortifications. Hikers then cross open meadows filled with juniper bushes on their way to the quiet Frauenberg Chapel, a long-standing stop for pilgrims. The route winds through the KultURwald forest, passing the hidden Cobenzl Cave, which is linked to local legends of secret societies. A peaceful riverside path along the Altmühl marks the final stretch of the journey. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended for the hilly and sometimes uneven forest terrain.
