In the Hassberge Nature Park, numerous castle ruins bear witness to times long past, when the formerly powerful bishoprics of Bamberg and Wuerzburg tried to secure their influence in the region with the help of castles. The Burgenkundliche Rundweg ("Castle Loop") connects eight castles in different states of preservation to form a beautiful cycle tour. The Altenstein, Rotenhahn, Teufelsstein and Bramberg castles as well as the Lichtenstein and Raueneck castle ruins are freely accessible. Since there are a few meters of altitude to overcome, a good level of fitness and/or e-bikes are recommended.
A refreshment stop can be enjoyed in Pfaffendorf, Altenstein, Eyrichshof and Bramberg.
