Freiburg - Hinterwaldkopf-Trail

Loop
This physically demanding route leads from the Black Forest metropolis of Freiburg up to one of the most beautiful panoramic peaks in the southern Black Forest. The route follows a varied mix of wide forest paths, crisp climbs along forest trails and narrow, sometimes rooty single trails. A central highlight is the summit of the Hinterwaldkopf (1,198 m), which impresses with its wide bristle grass meadows and unobstructed views of the Feldberg and across the Dreisamtal valley to the Vosges mountains. Peregrine falcons and, with a bit of luck, the rare capercaillie can be observed in the resting areas at high altitudes, while the mountain meadows offer enormous botanical diversity in summer. The route requires a good level of fitness due to the difference in altitude and the technical sections.
