EuroVelo 6 - Atlantic-Black Sea (Bavarian section)

This history-steeped long-distance route leads across the Free State of Bavaria as part of the European cycle network, essentially following the course of the Danube. The path runs almost exclusively on excellently maintained, mostly paved cycle paths, which are largely flat and lead directly along the riverbanks or through vast floodplain landscapes without significant inclines. A central highlight is the Danube Gorge near Weltenburg, where the river forces its way through massive limestone cliffs, as well as the World Heritage cities of Regensburg and Passau with their monumental cathedrals. In the extensive Danube floodplains, grey herons, cormorants, and with some luck, even white-tailed eagles can be brilliantly observed, as they are native to the protected areas along the river. The path condition is consistently high-quality, allowing for swift and comfortable progress through the varied Bavarian river landscape.
