Trail reviews for Durmitor National Park
I completed this hike on the 17th May 2025, just after a heavy snowfall. The trail was manageable up to Zeleni Vir Lake, thanks to the well-marked path and visible footprints left by other hikers. However, once the steep ascent began, the trail became much harder to follow. With fresh snow covering the ground, I had to make my own way scrambling, uncertain if I was heading in the right direction. I ultimately decided to turn around at 2,150m because the terrain grew significantly steeper, and I completely lost sight of the trail. Although I was disappointed to cut the hike short, I recognized that I wasn’t properly equipped - my feet were soaked, I didn’t have any gloves, and I didn’t bring an ice pick. I would recommend ensuring you have the right gear if attempting this hike in snowy conditions. Entrance fee for the Durmitor National Park is €5.
Itinerary with varied views, passing from one valley to the next with beautiful vistas of the Durmitor massif. Not very rolling terrain (watch your ankles!), making us very slow. Nothing very technical in itself, not dangerous. Sticks would have helped. The entrance to the ice cave is impressive but very steep, so we don't recommend descending there. There was some snow around the path, but we didn't need to cross any. Good footwear recommended. Take enough water and food. Not too busy.
Our first hike in Durmitor, lovely walk with minimal elevation for most of the trail. Gets a little steep and rocky about half way through but there were r
Great hike! The descent is steep but, taking your time, without difficulty. For the last part, we did not follow the same track as the application but we took a path from the lake, leaving the track to the right, which made us find the first pass, and therefore the end of the descent was simple (path from the beginning). Magnificent view of the Durmitor!!
