Best trails in Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park
Designated a quasi-national park in 1967, it covers Mount Takao, parts of Machida City and the surrounding area. With an area of 770 hectares, it is said to be the smallest quasi-national park in Japan. Part of it overlaps with the Tokyo Metropolitan Takao Jinba Natural Park, and rich natural forests of fir, oak, red pine and beech remain. A wide variety of wildlife inhabits this area.
Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park is also the starting point of the Tokai Nature Trail and the Kanto Fureai no Michi, where you can go hiking or trekking to admire the magnificent surrounding mountains and Mount Fuji. If you are interested in the history of the area, be sure to visit Yakuoin Temple on the mountainside of Mount Takao. Many traditional festivals are held here throughout the year.
