Chandoli National Park was established as a wildlife sanctuary in the year of 1985 and was later given the title of a national park in the year 2004. This park lies between two wildlife sanctuaries, Sahyadri Tiger Reserve in the south and Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary in the Northern region. This park has a very rich history with many forts, Prachitgad is one of the forts that lie inside the park with many ruins of the fort all around the forest area. Warna river is one of the major rivers that flow through this park, there are many smaller streams and rivers that flows over here as well. There are flat-topped mountains, rocky, lateritic plateau called 'Saddas', almost devoid of vegetation, large boulders and caves are distinctive to the protected areas in the Sahyadri region of the Western Ghats. Being a National Park this location is highly biodiverse with 23 species of mammals, more than 100 species of birds, and 20 species of amphibians and reptiles. Some of the animals found over here are the tigers, leopards, Indian bison, leopards cat, sloth bear, and giant squirrels.
