Kaziranga National Park is home to almost 2200 one-horned rhinoceros which is almost 2/3rd population of the total number of rhinoceros in the world. It got the status of the protected area after Mary Curzon, the wife of the Viceroy of India – Lord Curzon of Kedleston visited this location in the year 1905 and wasn't able to see any rhinoceros, so after a lot of consideration, it was given the title of reserved forest in the year 1908. Later in 1985, it was also declared as the world heritage site by UNESCO. It has also been deemed the tag of tiger reserve after successful tiger conservation tactics adopted over here.
It has a variety of other species as well, such as the Hoolock Gibbon, Leopard, Indian Elephant, Sloth Bear, Wild water buffalo, swamp deer, etc. During the migration season, many migratory birds from Central Asia visit this location. In terms of flora, many different species of plants, trees, and flowers are found here. Some of the common trees found over here are Kumbhi, Indian gooseberry, cotton tree, and elephant Apple. Being right next to the Brahmaputra river and many lakes throughout the park a lot of aquatic species of plants and animals can also be seen over here.
