Best easy trails in Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park
The Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park covers the Schleswig-Holstein part of the Wadden Sea of the North Sea. The national park stretches from the mouth of the Elbe in the south to the Danish border in the north and covers an area of 4,380 square kilometers, making it the largest national park between the North Cape and Sicily. However, two thirds of the area is permanently under water and only one third periodically falls dry. Together with the Wadden Sea areas of Lower Saxony and Lower Saxony, the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea has been a UNSECO World Heritage Site since 2009.

The route begins at the Info-Hus in Ahndel and leads across the salt marshes to the 40-meter-high Westerheversand lighthouse, which was built in 1906 and is the symbol of the entire peninsula. On the way there are lots of birds to discover and observe. Especially in autumn, many flocks of resting birds can be found here, starting their journey south. You can also find some sheep grazing parts of the salt marshes.
