Eppendorf is Hamburg's oldest village. It developed from a former pasture and moorland landscape. In order to build houses here, the low-lying, very damp land was filled in and built on. Today, all that remains of the original landscape is the Eppendorfer Moor on the Tarpenbek, which has been a nature reserve since 1982.
