Best trails in Rokua National Park
Rokua National Park is located in North Ostrobothnia, near Vaala. It is part of the Rokua Geopark, Finland's first UNESCO geological site. The ridge terrain in the area was formed during the retreat of the last Ice Age. The park's signature species, the ladybird, thrives in the rugged pine forests.
Rokua has four Lapp huts, two day-use huts, the Pookin Pirtti rental hut, the Palovartijan Tupa wilderness hut, and a lean-to shelter on Jaakojärvi. Sleeping is not permitted in the huts, but camping is allowed in their vicinity. The lean-to shelter on Lake Pitkäjärvi is accessible.
The nearest train station is Vaala, about 22 km from the park. A public bus runs to Rokua daily in summer and on weekends in autumn. The parking area on Rokuantie has a caravan park and an electric car charging point and is maintained in winter.
