Sunset Rock Guide:
Access via the Zipline Café > climb the stairs to the shop, but just before the shop, turn right and then left onto the stone stairs > the stairs will end after a few meters, giving way to a dirt path (see Photo 1) > continue to an intersection; you should see one platform to the left of the path as it continues and another platform a little further up, take the fork to head in that direction (the path narrows and climbs slightly) > this is where the hairpin turns begin! Head toward the top of the mountain by climbing the switchbacks: it’s best to stick exactly to the route shown on the “map.” The path is fairly well-maintained at the start, but the vegetation takes up a bit more space on the final switchbacks > you’ll arrive at a first abandoned pagoda, where you should follow a fairly wide forest path while continuing to climb (heading left). You pass by a second pagoda (photo 2: white pagoda), and continue on to the antennas, which you skirt to the right (photos 3 and 4) > you then reach the forest via a new, clear path > here you’ll find the national park map (photo 5); turn left and follow the “map” again until the sign, it’s straight ahead > do not turn right when you pass the arrow (photo 6) > you should pass several vines and trees across the path > until you reach a large tree trunk and another map (photo 7). This is the last obstacle; go around it from above > one last rock, and there you are at the viewpoint
Allow 30 minutes for the climb and 20 for the descent; it’s fairly gradual but can be slippery in wet weather. The path is mostly clear. Be careful—it can get very hot due to the humidity. Bring water.
