Radtour Nr. 5 - Die romantische Tour

The tour starts in Landkirchen. The town is an old craftsmen's village. St Peter's Church, visible from afar, is an old seafaring church built in the 13th century in the early Gothic style. The free-standing, wooden bell tower from the 17th century is particularly worth seeing. The pulpit and the model of a warship (around 1617) hanging from the ceiling are also striking. Below the nave is an octagonal, goblet-shaped baroque font from 1735, decorated with cherubs' heads, angel figures and five reliefs with motifs from the Holy Scriptures. The pews in the centre aisle once belonged to influential families, nepotisms, guilds and brotherhoods. The "high stalls" on the outer walls still belong to certain families today, but are no longer entered. The route leads towards Teschendorf at the southern end of the village. Halfway to Teschendorf, the Teschendorf moor stretches out on the left-hand side of the path, where a prehistoric trading centre was uncovered in 1945. Via the villages of Teschendorf and Westerbergen, you reach Lemkenhafen, which once (in the second half of the 15th century) had the town charter of Lüb. The town's coat of arms at the time showed a lamb striding to the left with a Holstein nettle leaf. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Lemkenhafen was a lively trading centre with several granaries. In addition to the fishing and yacht harbour and the Aalkate, Lemkenhafen is also home to the "Jachen Flünk" sailing windmill, built in 1787 by grain merchant and ship owner Joachim Rahlff. The mill houses the Mill and Agricultural Museum. You leave the village heading north and cycle past the individual farms of Neuhof, Bellevue and Mittelhof to Lemkendorf. Heavy car traffic must be expected on this section of the route. Lemkendorf is a typical example of the type of village common on Fehmarn, the so-called fortress village. This is a compact street village, in the centre of which the street widens into a rectangular square. The villages were originally surrounded by a low fieldstone wall. There were gates at the entrance and exit to the village (hence the name "Forta") so that cattle could be kept in the square at night. Street names ending in "-dor", e.g. Middeldor, indicate that there used to be a gate here. One of the most beautiful paths on this tour leads from Lemkendorf to Bisdorf, one of Fehmarn's most romantic villages. On the right-hand side, the route is lined by the Kopendorfer Au, the largest "river" on the island. At the southern end of Bisdorf, the route leads back to Landkirchen. To reach the cycle path to Landkirchen, you have to cross the main road - be careful as there is likely to be heavy traffic.
