Radtour Nr. 4 - Die Mühlentour

Varied round tour on Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein. The starting point is the village pond in Petersdorf. Leave Petersdorf to the north-east and follow the tarmac road at signpost 4/2, turning south via Gollendorf and Neuhof to Lemkenhafen. Take care when crossing the main road. Lemkenhafen used to have its own town charter. The town coat of arms at the time showed a lamb striding to the left with a Holstein nettle leaf. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Lemkenhafen was a lively trading centre with several granaries. In addition to the fishing and yacht harbour and the Aalkate, Lemkenhafen is also home to the "Jachen Flünk" sailing windmill, built in 1787 by grain merchant and ship owner Joachim Rahlff. The mill houses the Mill and Agricultural Museum. The route continues over the dyke to Orth. The harbour here is well worth a visit. On the west side is a monument to Emperor Wilhelm I dating from 1890. Continue along the dyke, past the Krummsteert/Sulsdorfer Wiek nature reserve. Turn north at signpost 4/11 and cycle via Sulsdorf to Püttsee. From there, a feeder road leads to Flügge and the Flügge lighthouse. The route continues on a tarmac road to the dyke north of Püttsee. The Wallnau nature reserve is now on the western side. A detour is possible here. The penultimate village on the tour is Kopendorf, which has retained the box-shaped village form typical of Fehmarn, the so-called fortress village. The tour leads back to Petersdorf, where a village nature trail provides information about the history of the village.
