From Rathen to the Polenztal loop

This hike can start in the spa town of Rathen at the railway station. Afterwards, a ferry ride to the other side of the Elbe awaits you for the start of the hike (note prices and times). At Grünbach, the route heads towards the Polenztal valley. The trail runs along the river of the same name through the beautiful valley to the Polenztal guesthouse and inn. If you want to stop for a bite to eat, you can do so here. From there, the route follows the Schindergraben, including the river of the same name. The route climbs steadily uphill until it leads back to the starting point, starting on the Halbenweg and offering great views. A detour to the Gautschgrotte grotto is well worthwhile as you pass some fantastic rock formations.
