Varied circular hiking trail in the Saxon Switzerland National Park, Saxony
This circular trail, rich in natural and cultural-historical attractions, leads from Rathen through the heart of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. It goes through picturesque river valleys, past the wild rock formations of the Lusatian thrust. The hike is easily accessible by bus and train and can be started at Oberathen railway station.
As the route continues on the other side of the Elbe, the ferry must be used for the crossing (check prices and times). Alternatively, the route can also be started on the other bank. From there, the route climbs a good distance uphill through the beautiful Amselgrund, past the idyllic Amselsee and along the Knotenweg to the impressive Hocksteinaussicht. From there, the route continues through the beautiful Polenztal valley to the Carolastein, which can be climbed as an option.
You return to the starting point via the Heidestein and the Gamrigscheibe. There are several refreshment stops along the way.
