The hiking trail follows the historical footsteps of the painter Caspar David Friedrich. The route connects locations in Saxon Switzerland where the painter made drawings in 1813. Along the way, 12 information boards show the works created at the respective locations. One stop is the Kaiserkrone; the pencil drawing "Felsige Kuppe" ("Rocky Hilltop") created there served as a preliminary study for the rock motif in the oil painting "The Wanderer above the Sea of Fog".
