Moselsteig Stage 16: Neef - Ediger-Eller

This route follows the 16th stage of the Moselsteig and connects Neef with Ediger-Eller along one of the most spectacular and exciting sections of the entire trail. Although this is the shortest stage of the long-distance hiking trail, it challenges walkers with its winding ascent up the Bremmer Calmont – the steepest vineyard in Europe. At the summit, a viewing platform offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Moselle Valley, revealing a view of the ruins of Stuben Abbey lying in the valley below and the famous Vierseenblick (view of the four lakes). For particularly sure-footed adventurers with a head for heights, the Calmont via ferrata offers an optional route via ladders and steps directly through the steep rock face. Accommodation is available in the cosy guesthouses and winegrowers’ cottages in Neef, as well as in the historic half-timbered houses of Ediger-Eller; wild camping is prohibited. Refreshments are available in both stage towns, as well as seasonally at the estate tavern on the Calmont plateau. Thanks to the stations in Neef and Ediger-Eller (Eller stop) on the Moselle line, transport links are excellent, with regular regional train services to Koblenz and Trier; timetables and information can be found at https://www.vrt-info.de.
