The starting point for this wonderful hike, which combines the popular Calmont via ferrata and the Calmont high trail into a beautiful circular tour, is Ediger-Eller railway station (accessible by bus and train).
The route is characterised by great views over the Moselle valley and the idyllic, vine-covered steep slopes. A relatively beginner-friendly but strenuous via ferrata leads up to the Calmont, the "steepest vineyard in Germany". You have to negotiate ladders and passages secured with wire ropes - surefootedness, a head for heights, a good basic level of fitness and sturdy footwear are therefore required. Once at the top, the Calmont Höhenweg offers breathtaking views of the photogenic Moselle bend near Bremm and the picturesque Calmont region.
