This circular route is marked "Wanderweg 86" and is one of 9 routes to the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest. The Hürtgen Forest was a heavily fought area between Americans and Germans in World War II. From Simonskall, it goes via Vossenack through the forest uphill along the Kallbach. The first remains of the bunker can be found here. The following steep ascent is rewarded with a beautiful view over the Kalltal. On tight, narrow paths, we continue towards Buhlert. There are more bunkers along the way. Not all bunkers are accessible (headlamps recommended), as bats nest there from October to March. Now, it's back to the starting point in Simonskall.
