This historic walking trail is one of the most popular routes in the Rureifel walking area. The route through the Kall Gorge was known as the ‘Kall Trail’ by the Americans during the Second World War. In 1944, an attempt was made to halt the German Wehrmacht in a wooded mountain range known as the Hürtgenwald. A great many American soldiers lost their lives in the process. This event has gone down in history as one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War and remains a case study in US Army training to this day.
This route, which is both historically fascinating and scenically picturesque, begins at the Hürtgenwald 1944 Museum and continues through peaceful countryside. You can expect a lovely mix of wooded areas and open terrain offering sweeping views.
