Popular hiking trail around the historic resort of Simonskall in the Rureifel, North Rhine-Westphalia. The premium hiking trail starts at Baptist-Palm-Platz at the church in Vossenack and follows the signpost with the number [36]. The hike leads into the quiet valleys of the Morlesief and Richelsbach streams, along the wide Kalltalweg trail and reaches the Mestrenger Mühle mill, which is a testimony to industrial history. Information boards provide historical information. With ingenuity, the settlers in this region utilised the forest and the power of water as their only sources of energy in the 17th century. Charcoal for smelting the ore and water wheels to drive the grinding and punching mills were the beginning of a developing iron industry in the Eifel, which then found better conditions for iron and steel production on the Rhine and Ruhr in the 19th century. Another special feature of this route are the 400 million year old rock formations with a special folded structure that is unique in the Eifel! A nice stop off is at the hotel in Simonskall and the café at the Mestrenger Mühle. Attention! A bridge over the Kall is out of order. The stream is crossed with the help of stones.
