Beautiful, wild circular hike in the Eifel Nature Park, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The last part of the route, between Schwammenauel and Scheidbaum, runs a lot off the beaten track, both on footpaths and straight through the forest. You should be aware of the risks and have appropriate clothing, footwear and provisions with you. Alternatively, you can hike back from Schwammenauel on the outward route and then return to the starting point via Schmidt. There are many beautiful viewpoints and marvellous nature along the way. There are several places to stop for refreshments at the lake. Accessible by bus and train. In good weather, there is a lovely place to swim at Eschaueler Sonnenstrand.
