Kloster Heisterbach – Bad Honnef

This route runs largely along the Rheinsteig. With an ascent of 1149 metres and a gradient of 1172 metres, this moderate to difficult stage is almost alpine. Shortly after the monastery, after a gentle start, you will see a wayside shrine dating back to 1724. The Rheinsteig branches off to the left and the path becomes narrower and steeper on its way through the Siebengebirge. After a brief view of the Drachenfels, or Drachenburg, from the restaurant's beautiful terrace, the trail continues, finally downhill, to the Mondscheinwiese. The route continues along serpentines to the foot of the Petersberg and over a forest path to a pedestrian bridge and then over the L331 to the Margaretenhöhe and the Ölberg. The next ascent begins on the left at a refuge. Via the Guillaumhütte hut, the route leads to the top of the Geisberg and the renewed view of the Drachenfels makes up for the strenuous climb. Passing sharp basalt boulders, the route leads through a beautiful avenue of trees towards Drachenfels. A beautiful avenue of trees goes straight ahead. Another, just as beautiful, goes left. The Drachenfels sign points to the left. But the Rhine footbridge goes straight ahead.
