Große Rennrad-Schleife Bonn-Laacher See

This extensive racing cycle loop leads from the federal city of Bonn into the volcanic heart of the Eifel and offers a challenging test of endurance. A large part of the route follows winding side roads and tarmac paths that climb steadily out of the Rhine Valley. Historically, the destination is characterised by Lake Laach, a caldera lake that was formed around 13,000 years ago by a massive volcanic eruption, and the nearby Maria Laach Abbey dating back to the 11th century. Steady differences in altitude and long climbs towards the volcanic peaks have to be mastered. Picturesque descents with sweeping views of the Siebengebirge mountains and the Brohl valley reward every effort. The terrain is technically uncomplicated and relies more on cardiovascular fitness than special skills as the trail traverses the rugged heights of the Vordereifel.
