Obernried Loop (Ww03)

Popular circular hiking trail in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park, Bavaria. From the starting point in Obernried, follow the markings out of the village. Once you reach the field cross and signpost, turn left onto a field path that turns into a meadow path. From here you have a wonderful view of Čerchov, Hohenbogen and even the King of the Bavarian Forest, the Arber. After an easy forest path, follow the tarmac road to the right to Kuglhof. If you pay attention, you will discover a carved squirrel along the path in the forest. After visiting the chapel, the trail continues along the game reserve to Darstein. Passing an old oven, the markings point to the left into Kirchenbühl. After a short walk, you reach the Darsteiner Kircherl. The grotto behind the church is also worth seeing and invites you to take a break. Continue along the Way of the Cross to the first station on a narrow path. At the end of the forest, the markings point across a clearing to the edge of the forest. Follow this until you reach a path lined with stone walls and bushes, which soon turns into forest paths. After the partly dark coniferous forest, you are rewarded with a marvellous view of Kolmberg. It is now 700 metres to the centre of Balbersdorf. Here the path turns northwards. In the valley, it leads along ponds and small streams to Klinglmühle. At the sawmill, the path branches off to the right. After crossing the factory premises, you cross a small stream. The path now leads past pastures and into the forest. You soon reach a beautiful clearing with hunters' hides. The hiking trail continues along stone walls.
