Popular day tour in the Allgäu Alps near Oberstdorf.
This hike starts at the Alpe Eschbach in Birgsau. There are several huts along the route where you can stop for refreshments in summer. The Breitengehrenalpe is particularly rustic. Cheese is still made on site here. The dairyman is a real "Allgäu original".
The route follows the signs for the Rappenseehütte along a strenuous ascent. However, the effort is rewarded with fantastic views.
You finally reach the Rappenseehütte, which was built in 1885. After several extensions, it is the largest hut of the German Alpine Club. It has 189 campsites and 115 beds. On the descent, you can also stop off at the Enzianhütte.
