Heilbronner Weg

Popular circular trail in the Allgäu Hohalpen, Bavaria. The Heilbronn Trail is a trail steeped in history, with roots dating back to 1899. The current version of the trail was completed in 2000. The Heilbronner Weg is one of the absolute mountaineering highlights and is one of the oldest via ferratas in Germany. It is also the most high-alpine via ferrata in Germany, which is partly rugged, exposed and in many places secured by steel cables. It is mostly embedded in rock and later mainly directly on the ridge of the central Allgäu main ridge. The views of the surrounding mountain peaks are breathtaking. From the Birgsau Alpe Eschbasch, the trail leads past the Petersalpe snack station and the Einzianhütte hut. From there it goes to the Rappenseehütte (2091 m). Behind the hut, the route climbs up to the Große Steinscharte and finally through the cirque to the start of the insurance. Above the Rappenseehütte it becomes quite technical and very steep. Climbing is required and a helmet and climbing harness are recommended (sections up to A/B). The route is not recommended for inexperienced hikers. Bad weather makes the route even more slippery and technical. From the Bockkarscharte, the trail finally descends very steeply (zigzag, A) into the Vordere Bockkar and reaches the Waltenberger Haus in a scree field. From the hut, the marked hiking trail descends steeply to Einödsbach (1114 m) and from there along the road back to Birgsau or to the Fellhornbahn car park.
