MAX100: Kochel - Seefeld

A popular section of the route that combines the familiar with the unfamiliar Lake Kochelsee is very popular with mountain bikers and is the starting point for this Transalp tour. It is easily accessible from Munich via the motorway and by public transport. Right after the start, a strenuous climb awaits on this route. However, this is rewarded soon after the first pass with a wonderful view of the turquoise blue of the ice-cold Walchensee. As the western shore of the Walchensee is usually very busy, we recommend taking the route around the lake. The route there is almost traffic-free on a tarmac road along the shore. At Niedernach, however, the route leaves the leisurely lakeside path and a steeper passage to the Hochkopf begins. The final section to the unmanaged Hochkopfhütte in particular features technical uphill sections on singletrack. Here too, however, the effort is rewarded with a fantastic view from the hut of the Isar basin between Wallgau and Mittenwald, the Karwendel mountains and the Wetterstein. The descent from the hut begins immediately with a technically challenging trail. Although it is not far to the access road to the hut, the heavily eroded passage with its run-off planks requires technical skill and is not suitable for beginners. On the rest of the route, you pass streams and cross raised bogs. Caution: after long periods of rainfall, the high moor passage can be as wet as a sponge and have mud holes.
