Best paved trails in Essen

Lake Baldeney is located in the south of Essen. The Bochum Railway Museum is located a little to the north-east. This is where the circular route begins, which leads to Lake Baldeney and back and is best travelled by bike. The route around Lake Baldeney itself is 27 kilometres long. The circular route is an excellent way to enjoy the nature around the lake and there are many viewpoints to take a short break.

This is a short walk from Essen's main railway station to Essen-Borbeck station. After crossing the university district, you will reach the Rheinische Bahn railway, which takes you past Krupp Park and Niederfeldsee lake. The Rheinische Bahn then joins the cycle path at Borbeck station and heads towards Borbeck-Mitte.

Challenging run in the Ruhr region. This is the running route of the annual Megamarsch. As some sections of the route may be closed to traffic on the day of the event, it is essential to follow the road traffic regulations on the other days.
