On the way from the Waldhotel Schmücke (car park and bus stop available), the route passes bizarre "forest spirits," some beautiful views, and idyllic narrow paths. It goes past the Schneekopfmoor and the Teufelskanzel to the Schneekopf. There is the Touringen stamp point 68 - Schneekopf.
From there, the route goes up and down through the low mountain range landscape via the Erfurter Hütte and the Dürrenberger Hütte, partly on the Rennsteig back to the starting point.
