Versatile hike on the island of Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein.
The hike, which requires sturdy footwear, starts at the campsite in Katharinenhof. At the forest pavilion, the route leads through the coastal Norderholz to the beach. The Fehmarn ground moraine, formed by the last ice age glaciers, can be seen here in the form of the cliffs. Tarraston lenses are embedded in the cliff.
The route will reach the 72-metre-high radar tower of the naval station near the beach. A bit further south is a car park with a toilet block above the cliff. From there, the route leads to Staberholz. This wood is the island's only "real" forest, a remnant of the former extensive woodland with oaks and hornbeams.
After leaving the forest, the route comes to a narrow tarmac road on which a detour to the Staberhuk lighthouse can be planned. The 23-metre-high lighthouse was built in 1903. The hike continues along the tarmac via the Staberhof estate and northwards around Staberdorf to Meeschendorf. At the entrance to the village, the route initially follows the road to Vitzdorf but turns off towards Meeschendorf. From there, the route heads towards the starting point. There are refreshment stops along the way.
