Um das Arboretum

Impressive circular route in the Free State of Saxony. It goes into the land of Augustus the Strong. The start is at the Erdmannsdorf-Augustusburg railway station. From there, the route heads south, past the valley station of the cable car and first over, then along the Zschopau. Through meadows and fields, accompanied by the river, you reach the refreshing forest and after a while you reach the well-known arboretum. A few years ago, a forest education centre was established here, which focuses on the diversity of the trees and plants growing here. The primeval sequoia, for example, which grows here alongside other rare trees, is very interesting and well worth seeing. The next stop is the historic Augustusburg hunting lodge, high up on the Schellenberg. Also known as the "Crown of the Ore Mountains", the castle is very impressive and guarantees a fantastic view of the countryside. If you still have enough strength, the via ferrata located near the wire rope stations is also recommended. The way back then leads through the town of Augustusburg and through the forest back to the starting point.
