The Zschopau is a tributary of the Freiberger Mulde. It rises on the northern slope of the Fichtelberg at an altitude of 1,070 metres. After 128 kilometres, the Zschopau flows into the Freiberger Mulde near Schweta (Döbeln).
Worth seeing on the section from Hennersdorf to Mittweida are the historic Braunsdorf show weaving mill, Lichtenwalde Castle with its baroque garden and the Sachsenburg concentration camp memorial.
