The hike starts at Holzhau railway station and ends at Berthelsdorf station.
The Gimmlitz is a right tributary of the Freiberger Mulde in the Ore Mountains. The source is located near the Schickelshöhe (805 m). After around 25 kilometres, the Gimmlitz flows into the Freiberger Mulde in Lichtenberg. From the source, around 15 km of the Gimmlitz Valley has been a nature reserve since 2015.
