The route begins in peaceful Nonnweiler, which lies in the centre of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park.
Right at the start of the hike, there is a slight ascent to get to the dam of the Nonnweiler reservoir. With 20 million cubic metres of water, it is the largest reservoir in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. As well as being used for drinking water, the reservoir is also used to generate electricity.
After walking along the banks of the reservoir, you reach the Otzenhausen Celtic Park. There, a Celtic village takes you back 2,000 years in time. In addition to 10 "dwellings", there are storehouses to explore that have been reconstructed on the basis of historical artefacts.
After viewing the Celtic village, the route continues to the 10.5 metre high Celtic ring wall. The popularly known "Hun Ring" was built as early as 100 BC and surrounded a Roman temple complex at the time. Guided tours are available.
On the way back to the dam, you finally pass the Nonnweiler planetary nature trail. However, you leave this after about half of the route to get back to Hermeskeil.
In Hermeskeil, you can take a bus from Donatasplatz to get back to the starting point of the hike.
