Saar-Hunsrück-Steig Stage 17: Sohren - Altlay

This route follows stage 17 of the certified Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium trail, connecting Sohren with Altlay on a particularly relaxing section. Due to its moderate length and minimal inclines, this stretch is very easy to hike. After crossing the B 50 highway, the path leads to a wonderful viewpoint overlooking the Idarkopf mountain. Passing an old Jewish cemetery, the trail winds through the forest directly to the geographic center of Rhineland-Palatinate, which features pleasant resting areas. Following a beautiful woodland section and crossing the L 193 road, the path climbs onto a vast plateau that opens up an outstanding panoramic view over the entire Hunsrück region all the way to the Moselle Valley. Another viewpoint provides a direct look at the runway of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport before the trail dives into a quiet, rustic stream valley, finishing in the village of Altlay after a short final climb. Cozy refreshments and charming accommodations are available in Sohren and at the stage destination in Altlay; wild camping is prohibited.
