Historically unique hike at Hambach Castle near Hambach, Rhineland-Palatinate.
For those travelling by car, there are parking facilities at the starting point. There are also refreshment stops in Diedesfeld. The route is therefore ideal as a day trip from Mannheim or Heidelberg.
The hiking trail starts in the west of Diedesfeld at the wineries. The trail then leads past the Sommerberg and Hambach Castle on beautiful hiking trails within the Palatinate Forest. Because of the Hambach Festival organised there in the 19th century, it is considered the most important symbol of the democracy movement in Germany and is well worth a visit.
