Lautertal-Radweg

From Hinterweidenthal, the cycle path follows the path of the Weißlauter (the white Lauter), which is dominated on both sides by huge pink sandstone rocks of strange shapes. Beyond Dahn, the valley gradually narrows and the afforestation becomes denser and denser. Leaving the forest, the cycle path reaches the town of Wissembourg, whose ramparts contain architectural treasures. The half-timbered houses, dominated by the Abbey of St-Pierre-et-Paul, are reflected in the waters of the Lauter that crosses them. To the east, the valley widens and after the Hardt racecourse, the cycle path runs along the old lines of the Lauter, an 18 km long defensive structure built during the War of the Spanish Succession, which takes the old embankment of the Wissembourg-Lauterbourg railway line. In Lauterbourg, a charming fortified town at the eastern tip of Alsace, it links the Rhine forests and nature reserves with the Rhine Cycle Route - EuroVelo 15.
