Best trails near Ritterstein 1 "Trift-Holzhof"

A journey from Wissembourg, an ancient city of the Decapolis founded in the 7th century on the banks of the Lauter, to Gimbelhof, a locality close to the ruins of the castles of Loewenstein and Hohenbourg. Part of this route follows the Franco-German border and lies in the heart of the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park.

This cycle route in the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park links Lauterbourg to Wissembourg in the Bas-Rhin. The route takes you through the landscapes of the Lauter valley. The path passes through cultivated countryside before reaching the beautiful Vosges forest, where hiking trails begin in the Dahner Felsenland.

From Hinterweidenthal, the cycle path follows the path of the Weißlauter (the white Lauter), which is dominated on both sides by huge pink sandstone rocks of strange shapes. Beyond Dahn, the valley gradually narrows and the afforestation becomes denser and denser. Leaving the forest, the cycle path reaches the town of Wissembourg, whose ramparts contain architectural treasures.
