This cycle tour always leads along the water. From Obersee, the route follows the course of the Rur, then goes to the Oleftalsperre dam and along the Olef for a while. Finally, the route goes along the Urft to the Urftsee.
Most of the route runs along surfaced cycle paths of the NRW cycle network and some of it leads along gravelled forest paths. There are longer climbs before and after Monschau. The tour is also ideal as a 2-day tour with overnight stops in Einruhr, Rurberg and Monschau. This route and the longer ascent can be easily travelled by pedelec.
