The trail mostly consists of wide, well-maintained forest paths or tarmac; there is rarely a short section on a narrow path. If you start the trail on the north side (i.e. first to the Wiehenturm), the steepest and most strenuous section comes at the end. You can also easily turn the tour round, which makes it a little easier.
A detour to Limberg Castle is highly recommended.
Due to its length, this route requires a basic level of fitness, but no previous experience is necessary. The whole route is well signposted with the yellow "E". A good starting point is the Schwarzer Brink car park, where there is also a hiking map.
