The name of the nature and geopark can be translated as "life course of the earth". This is characterised by folding and erosion, flooding and glaciation, desert climates and permafrost. The landscape of the nature park is no different. The park was founded in 1962, although it was known as the Northern Teutoburg Forest - Wiehengebirge Nature Park until 2002. Today, it is characterised by an important geological heritage within comprehensible boundaries, a functioning management and makes a contribution to regional development, environmental education and the creation of nature-friendly recreational infrastructure.
