The Wurmtal valley is something very special: one of the few undeveloped, meandering river sections in Germany flows here. The Wurm is a very structurally rich river, it has bank breaks and longitudinal banks and there are always oxbow lakes bordering it. Surrounding it are floodplains, softwood floodplain forests and hornbeam woodland, which provide a home for stag beetles, European beavers and kingfishers. Great crested newts, teals and red-backed shrikes are also at home here.
In summer there can be lots of midges and horseflies.
