Die Schlössertour (Route 12)

Route 12: Castle tour Requirements: for experienced, asphalted and paved cycle and hiking trails. Scenery: Rhine, lakes, forest, ferries, nature reserve. Special feature: "Keer Tröch" ferry - Timetable: Palm Sunday to the end of September: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10.00-19.00; October: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10.00-18.00 Ferry "Rääße Pöntje" - Travelling times: Palm Sunday to the end of October: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10.00-19.00 hrs Start/finish: Tourist Information Xanten At the tourist information centre, walk straight ahead in the direction of the Meerturm. Turn left via Westwall/Südwall to the junction Südwall/Orkstraße. Turn right and then immediately left again and cycle to the pedestrian lights on the B57/Varusring main road. Cross the B57 and turn right at the roundabout until you reach Alter Rheinweg. Turn right at the roundabout until you reach Gelderner Straße. Turn left here and cycle to the Rhine ferry. Cross the Rhine on the "Keer Tröch" ferry (please note: limited travelling times). After approx. 150 metres on the other side of the Rhine, turn right towards Wesel (Marwick). Follow the dyke path until you reach Bislicher Straße. Turn right there and after approx. 400 metres turn left again into Auf dem Mars. Continue through the forest along the road Am Homberg to the crossroads. Turn left into Rosenallee. At the end of the road, cross Mühlenfeldstraße and immediately turn right. After approx. 700 metres, the route turns left into Am Jäger. Follow this road until you reach the B8 main road. Turn right there and then left again at the junction into Bislicher Wald. Cycle along this road for approx. 3 km until you reach the Diersfordter Straße/Westfeldweg junction. Now cycle left and after approx. 200 metres turn right into Mühlenrott. Follow this road until you reach Diersfordter Straße, where you turn left. Cycle along this road until you reach the Markstraße junction. Turn right onto Brüner Straße in the direction of the B473 junction. Cross this and follow Brüner Straße over the motorway bridge until you reach the Gasthaus zum Hasen-Hein (approx. 2.8 km), where you turn left and continue along Telgerhuck until you reach Van-De-Wall-Straße. Now turn left and after approx. 1 km turn left again towards Ringenberg. Cycle past Ringenberg Castle along the main road to the B473 junction. Cross this and continue along Weststraße/Mehrhooger Straße (L602)/Bahnhofstraße to Mehrhoog. Then take Rheinstraße/Heresbachstraße in the direction of Mehr. In Mehr, turn right opposite the sports ground onto Planetenweg in the direction of Rees. In Rees, cross the Rhine on the Rääße Pöntje ferry. On the other bank of the Rhine, you then return via Obermörmter, Vynen, past the Xanten North and South Seas, via Wardt and Lüttingen. You can reach the tourist information centre in the town via Rheinstraße, Nordwall and Klever Straße.
